The Frog and the Bull

There once was a frog living in a pond. It was really big, bigger than all the frogs around. That’s why it thought it was the biggest in the world. She also often boasted and bragged that no one was bigger than her.

One day a bull came to the pond to drink. The frog was completely charmed by him. So there is someone bigger than her after all?

“Who are you, you big monster?” she croaked at the bull from the reeds, until the bull almost choked in fright.

“I am the bull, you little frog.”

“Little?! Small?! I am the biggest of all frogs. And if I want to, I’ll be bigger than you,” said the frog, smugly.

“Come on, frog. We all have our destiny. Stay a frog, don’t want to be anything else.”

“I’m happy to stay a frog. But I’ll be bigger than you, bull,” he says with determination.

“Don’t try to do the impossible,” says the bull, but by then the frog has already begun to ouf up.

“I’ll be bigger than this rock,” said the frog, puffing up again.

“I’ll be bigger than you, bull.”

And it puffed up again. And again. And again.

“And I’ll be taller than these trees!”

And whoosh and whoosh and whoosh, the frog puffed on and on until suddenly there was a loud BANG! The frog puffed up until it burst.

The bull just shook his head.

“Stupid frog. If she hadn’t tried the impossible and tried to outdo everyone else, she might not have burst.”

And so the bull drank and left. And even though sometimes he felt big, like when he couldn’t fit between two trees growing close together, he remembered this frog. He wouldn’t even think of trying to make himself smaller. That’s impossible. It’s better to walk around the trees. That’s quite all right.
