Once upon a time there was a boy named Daniel who lived in a little house at the edge of the forest. The forest that stretched out behind the boy’s house was no ordinary woodland. It was enchanted.
One day, while helping his mother in the garden, Daniel was surprised when a little rabbit suddenly appeared before him. The rabbit explained that he had gotten lost and lived in the enchanted forest behind Daniel’s house. Together, they found the way back, and the rabbit safely returned home. Since then, Daniel and the little rabbit have become inseparable friends. They spent their days exploring the enchanted forest and helping its inhabitants whenever they could. One autumn, they found themselves involved in a very unusual task: helping a young roe buck shed his antlers.
Autumn was already in full swing when Daniel decided to visit his friend the little rabbit in the Enchanted Forest. The spiderweb gate let him through. It didn’t stop him from going in because it knew that Daniel was a true friend of the forest, someone who came to help rather than cause trouble. Even the little animals had grown fond of him.
As Daniel and the little rabbit wandered among the ferns that crisp autumn afternoon, they suddenly heard soft sobbing nearby. )
“What am I going to do?” a voice whimpered. “I can’t face winter like this. Everyone will laugh at me. It’s already time, and my antlers still haven’t fallen off.”
“Rabbit, did you hear that?” Daniel whispered.
The rabbit nodded and placed a paw over his snout, signaling for silence. He crouched low and looked around carefully to see who was wailing. After a while, he pointed toward the bushes beneath a large oak tree:
“Look, over there,” he whispered
When Daniel looked over, he saw a young roe deer rubbing his head against the ground, the dirt, and a tree trunk.
The two friends approached him gently.
“What’s wrong?” Daniel asked. “Why are you scratching your head so much? Maybe we can help.”
The roe deer sighed.
“Just look at me. It’s autumn, and roe bucks are supposed to shed their antlers before winter arrives. All my friends have already lost theirs, but mine won’t come off. I feel so ashamed. How can I welcome winter like this? I don’t understand why they won’t fall.”
Daniel carefully examined the antlers.
“They don’t look unusual to me,” he said kindly.
“Don’t worry,” the rabbit added. “We’ll think of something. After all, this is a magical forest.”
The rabbit sat quietly for a moment, deep in thought. Then his eyes lit up.
“I’ve got it! Daniel, run and find the owl. Ask her to gather all the birds of the forest. I know exactly how we can help our friend.”
Daniel did not waste a second asking questions. He immediately set off in search of the owl. Winter was drawing near, and there was little time to spare.
When he found her, he quickly explained what happened.
“The rabbit needs you,” Daniel said. “Please gather all the birds and meet us at the large oak tree near the bushes. It’s urgent.”
The owl spread her wings and flew off at once.
Before long, birds of every kind had gathered beneath the tree. Sparrows, finches, robins, and blackbirds perched on branches above the young roe deer.
The rabbit explained the problem and then turned to the birds.
“Only you can help him,” he said. “Owl, speak the spell. Birds, prepare yourselves. And you, young buck, stand perfectly still and hold out your head. Don’t be afraid. Everything will be alright.”
The owl rose above all her friends and began:
“Birds of the woods, fly to our side,
With magic power as your guide.
Help the deer, don’t delay,
Join your wings and save the day.
Let all things be as they should,
Fill his soul with peace and good.
At once, the birds rose into the air.
They circled above the buck’s head faster and faster. Their wings stirred the air until a colorful whirlwind formed around him. It was beautiful.
Daniel couldn’t believe his eyes. The little rabbit just smiled, and the owl watched over everything that was happening from above.
In a few minutes, the wind died down. The birds landed on the ground around the roe deer.
“Go on, friend,” they chirped. “Open your eyes,”
Slowly, the roe deer opened them.
He moved his head.
Something felt different.
His antlers were gone.
He looked down and saw them lying neatly on the ground beside him.
His heart filled with joy.
“Thank you!” he cried. “Thank you, everyone! You saved me. Now I can welcome winter properly. Rabbit, thank you for your clever idea. And Daniel, you’ve shown that you truly belong in our magical forest.”
The young roe deer hopped happily while thanking each of his friends.
Daniel smiled from ear to ear. Once again, he had been able to help someone and experience another wonderful adventure in the Enchanted Forest.
He was already looking forward to winter and was curious to see what experiences it would bring him.
