A little boy lived with his parents in a small house near the forest. His name was Daniel. His brown hair was a tangled mess, and his eyes were coral blue. His knees were always scraped. He was always coming up with new adventures.
Around his little house, he had a nice garden full of vegetables. He helped his mom take care of it, weeding the beds, watering the plants, and pulling weeds.

One day, when he tried to pull a carrot out of the ground, he couldn’t do it. “What’s this? Why can’t I pull it out? It’s as if someone’s holding it back,” Daniel thought. He grabbed it with both hands. He strained with all his might and pulled. A hare jumped out of the hole along with the carrot. Daniel fell on his bottom with the carrot in his hand, and sitting across from him was a strange little hare. They stared at each other, not believing their eyes.
“And who are you?” Daniel asked the little furry creature.
“I’m a hare from the Enchanted Forest,” the little hare replied, twitching his ears.
“What forest?” Daniel asked in disbelief.
“Well, right here in your forest behind the cottage—the Enchanted Forest. I live there. Lots of animals live there. But last night I was coming home late from a distant meadow and somehow got lost. I must have gotten into the wrong burrow. And then, instead of getting home, I ended up here. In your garden, under a carrot. Will you help me find my way back? To the magical forest?” the little hare asked the boy.
At first, Daniel just stared at the furry little creature. But then he thought for a moment and said, “I didn’t know the forest behind my house was magical. But I’d be happy to help you find your way back. It’ll be another adventure, and I love that. So come on, let’s go,” the little hare smiled, and they both set off on their journey. They walked together along a path that led them to the edge of the forest. There, two large coniferous trees towered before them. When the little hare this, he was overjoyed.
“Here it is! Here’s the entrance to the magical forest,” he jumped for joy.
But when they took a step forward, a large spiderweb appeared before them between the tree trunks. Both the hare and Daniel got stuck to it. When they tried to move forward, it flung them back.
“What is this? Why can’t we go into the forest?” Daniel asked the hare.
The hare just shook his head in confusion. “I don’t know why the forest won’t let us in. I don’t understand it,” the hare mused aloud.
They both stood there for a moment, waiting. Then a message began to appear on the web. “I am the Enchanted Forest; you must find the key. Find the little plant that will remove my web gate.”
The boy and the fluffy hare thought hard and looked all around them. What little plant could open the Enchanted Forest? After a while, Daniel found something. He picked the flower and, together with the hare, brought it to the gate.
Then Daniel said boldly and loudly, “The primrose is the plant that opens the door. It looks like keys, a little bit.” The spiderweb shimmered, then rippled, and then began to unravel.
“Hooray, you figured it out, buddy! Thank you, now I can go home. The magical forest has opened,” the little hare rejoiced and ran into the forest.
But then he stopped. He turned around and saw Daniel standing there by the gate, looking sad.
“Come on in too, I’ll show you all the secrets the Enchanted Forest holds!” the little hare waved his paw and called out to the boy. The boy ran excitedly through the gate.
Ever since then, the little hare and Daniel have been visiting each other, and every day is an adventure for them.
